1. How Much Ice Does It Produce?

First, you need to think about your application. If the ice machine is going to be for residential use, you will only require an ice machine with a small capacity. However, if you’re planning on putting the ice machine in a café, cocktail bar or restaurant the production you’ll need over a 24hr period will depend on the number of seats in the vicinity. Or the ice machine is for a worksite – the capacity will depend on how many workers you are trying to cater for.

2. What Type of Ice Do I Need?

There is a vast variety of ice shapes and sizes available – at the end of the day it comes down to your individual application and preference.

The styles of ice available include a standard square cube, half cube, octagonal cube, crescent ice (a half-moon shape) flake and nugget ice.

3. Making sure the ice machine will fit in the required space.

You need to make sure you allow enough space physically for the ice machine, but as these units produce heat, you need to ensure you also allow enough room for the airflow.

For example, if you’re looking for an ice machine for your home and you want to put it into some cabinetry, you need to allow at least 50mm clearance all the way around the unit.
